ABOUT DAYLLE DEANNA SCHWARTZ
Daylle
Deanna Schwartz, M.S.
is a writer, speaker, self-empowerment counselor, and music industry
consultant. Her best-selling Start & Run Your Own Record Label, The Real
Deal: How to Get Signed to a Record Label and I Don’t Need a Record
Deal! Survival Guide for the Indie Music Revolution are published by
Billboard Books. Daylle is regularly quoted in publications and on TV and radio
as an expert based on her popular self-empowerment books, All Men Are Jerks
until Proven Otherwise, How to Please a Woman In & Out of Bed and
Straight Talk with Gay Guys. She speaks for colleges, organizations, and
corporations and is on the Panel of Experts for Lifetimetv.com. She is
currently writing Nice Girls on Top.
People
ask how Daylle can have two distinctive platforms. Easy! She brings the lessons
from one field of expertise into the other. The music industry is based on
relationships. Fans of her music business books and e-zine appreciate how Daylle
weaves her tools for self-empowerment into her advice for conquering the music
industry. Many of the techniques for getting taken seriously in the music
industry end up in her self-empowerment writing.
Daylle
is a recovering DoorMat, which motivated her to launch her popular blog,
Lessons From a Recovering DoorMat. She was pushed into marriage at 20 and
became a schoolteacher, after buying into the “Shoulds and Can’ts” of her
upbringing. Her poor sense of self kept her stuck in a lifestyle she didn’t
want. As she slowly learned to value herself, Daylle developed the courage to
face life as a single woman. She made a vow to never let what others said stop
her from pursuing her passions.
Now Daylle
doesn't let obstacles stop her. She began to feel more empowered when she
accepted a dare from students who said a white woman couldn’t rap. Daylle set
out to prove them wrong because she didn’t want them to grow up believing that
stereotypes could stop them. When music industry people ripped her off as she
tried to get a record deal, Daylle’s students encouraged her to get revenge and
offered to do nasty things to them for her. Instead, she taught them a
spiritual lesson—use the energy behind anger to do something positive. Daylle
opened Revenge Productions and then Revenge Records, her positive revenge.
Nicknamed "the rappin' teach," she successfully ran the label for
five years.
The
music industry has always been male-dominated. Daylle was one of the few women
to start and successfully run a record label in the days when Russell Simmons
was bringing Def Jam Records to the forefront of hip hip and Tom Silverman was
beginning to make waves with Tommy Boy Records. People didn’t take her
seriously, and humored her instead of showing respect. But Daylle took herself
seriously and developed techniques for handling herself in nice ways that
earned respect from the men. Many of her Nice Girls on Top skills began
there. After learning how to conquer the music industry the hard way, Daylle
began teaching music business workshops, which are attended by people from
around the country and the world.
Dubbed
the “Indie Music Guru,” Daylle took what she learned and began educating
musicians on how to develop a satisfying career. She is a top female role model
in the music industry, still one of the few women to have reached her respected
level in guiding musicians. Daylle also does consulting for musicians and
independent record labels. Her goal is to help musicians learn how to empower
themselves.
After
being a DoorMat for years, Daylle accepted that the only way to have a healthy
relationship and develop better self-esteem was to get a life and complete herself
first. As she became more self-empowered, she was able to meet the challenges
of a multi-faceted career, and win. Seeing a need for the lessons that helped her,
Daylle began teaching classes, including Nice Girls on Top/ Nice Guys on Top
and counseling people about how to become more empowered and get more desires
met in a nice way.
Daylle’s
music industry books have a huge international market. Her relationship books
have been translated into ten languages. All Men Are Jerks until Proven
Otherwise was translated into Farsi and but was subsequently banned from
publication in Iran. Daylle has been writing regularly to Nasrin Sahihi, who
translated the book after becoming empowered by reading it. Nasrin’s first
letter said:
Before reading this book, I thought that only Iranian
women have such problems due their culture, religion, etc., but now I know that
some issues are universal and common all around the world. While reading the
book, I could see the content as a mirror reflecting my past experiences,
faults, and wrong responses to men. Now I have a lonely life, but a complete
one, and I am sure that I can attract any man I want. I really owe the rest of
life to you.
Project
Self-Empowerment is Daylle’s next venture. She is preparing to raise funds to
self-publish her book, How Do I Love Me? Let Me Count the Ways (for both
women and men), which she is donating. While the book will be sold in stores,
it will also be given away for free in colleges, battered women’s shelters,
churches, eating disorders clinics, and more. All money raised from book sales
will go back into the project. Daylle is doing this to show thanks for all of
her blessings. She’s was given an opportunity to turn her life around and wants
to help others do the same.
Daylle
has been a guest on over 300 TV and radio shows, including Oprah, Good
Morning America, Inside Edition, BBC, CNN, Fox News, Ricki Lake, Maury Povich
and Montel Williams. When she was on Howard Stern (radio) for
over half an hour, he kept repeating, “This woman knows what she’s talking
about.” Daylle is also on the Panel of Love Experts at Lifetimetv.com.
She is quoted as an expert or written about in many publications, including New
York Times, NY Post (several times), Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Tribune,
NY Daily News, Cosmopolitan, Lifetime TV, Women’s World, Men’s
Fitness, Marie Claire, and Men’s Health.
Daylle
is known for her straightforward, friendly style of communicating and mixes a
good dose of practicality and spirituality into all of her lectures. Having
overcome the obstacles that she speaks about, Daylle Deanna Schwartz motivates
her audience to go out and take control of their own lives!
